- design, architecture and art -

A visit to a museum or gallery for modern art is usually a major experience for a lover of design. Along with the actual exhibition, there is also beautiful architecture, some of the best bookstores, quiet areas to be inspired and naturally some great restaurants.

There is an array of such places in Europe, such as Louisiana and Arken in Copenhagen, Guggenheim in Bilbao, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Tate Modern, Design Museum, White Cube and Saatchi Gallery in London, Vitra Design museum in Germany, Baltic Centre in Newcastle and the  Astrup Fernley Museum in Oslo.

Museums and restaurants is often a good combination. In Paris, the Centre Pompidou top floor restaurant Georges, has quickly become a design favourite and a must see when in Paris. In London, the cafe on the top of the portrait Gallery is a great place for lunch while admiring the view over Trafalgar square and London.

The bookstore at Tate Modern is among the best in London, stretching along almost half of the length of the building and offers a wide array of art- design and architecture books, magazines, posters and other design items. The Museum shop at Design Museum, London and in the basement of the Louisiana outside Copenhagen are stuffed with small design gadgets and a fine selection of books.

Here are some of our favourite museums and galleries.
